One of my lovely old Verdiks. This set up features Russian winged C EF86 input and 2 6P18P pentodes (Russian EL84 equivalent) They work extremely well and are very well priced

The rings help to damp vibration

The power transformer cover can be rotated placing a vent at either top or bottom.

The following stereo pair was actually sold as separate mono amps back in the late 1950's. One was found dumped on the side of the road twenty years ago (see below) on the Sunshine Coast. The other was found in Auckland

I obtained this unit from Mr. Paul Brazier who found this amplifier on the side of the road about 20 years ago. This amplifier was made in London between 1957-1959. Mine is the later type with the power amps connected to the mains. The early version was powered in a similar way to the Quad Two. These amps are extremely rare. It looks in many ways like a scaled down Quad 2. The standard of construction is rather "cottage industry"  However, sonically both are superb. They have great clarity and detail and fine bass weight. Internally it is based on the Mullard 5-10 circuit. The original designer was born in Poland.

I later found a partner from eBay NZ

The matching preamp is very quirky and quite noisy

EZ81 rectifier, plus twin EL84, great sounding pentodes

In spite the cottage industry look these amps sound superb. They have a good weight bass unlike Quad Two.

HiFi fans in the UK during the sixties all wanted Mullard 5-10 designs like the Verdik.

All the valves are readily available and most of all they are cheap. 4 x good quality EL84s will cost around $40 US. I have replaced the EZ81 rectifier with a solid state device and kept it installed to keep the correct look. Its very hard to spot
