Shinkoh (mono) stepped attenuators

Note. I spend many hours listening to my music. I use a number of passive preamps so I wasn't really expecting a huge difference with the Shinkoh described by the HiFi Collective (see links). Based on my ears I feel that in mono form these stepped attenuators built has described will dazzle.

If you are thinking about trying a passive preamp

THESE ARE SIGNIFICANT!

My Shinkoh clone was built between the 26th and 28th Sept 2011.

I used this hificollective webpage as a starting point. Some of the images below

were taken from this source.

I had a pair of ELMA 24 step twin wafer sitches on the shelf. I bought a complete set of 0.5W metal resistors from

Jaycar Electronics. At the time of construction Jaycar could only supply a carbon type for the 8.2 ohm resistor. I have

attached a document which lists the resistors I used and their actual values I added an extra step in the middle listening range

(using a 1.58K in-between the 1K3 and 1K8. I decided to remove the 91K (at the top end) Both the added 1.58K and

input-output resistor are HOLCO. (whole copper) All contacts and resistor leads were carefully cleaned with 2-propanol

before soldering. The earth rails are 1mm fine silver. The connecting leads are teflon coated silver coated copper.
