National SB-22G classic alnicoadded 1st October 2011
I found these classic 70's Japanese ply/alnico at a local OP shop. The cabinet has a detachable (ply) grille and a separate internal enclosure for the tweeter. The 200mm bass has a massive square frame alnico magnet, a soft rubber surround and a cute felt dust cover. click on each image to magnify The inside is filled with glass fibre. I have reworked the crossover (see Suntan polypropylene above) and this is now attached to the back of the cabinet. The driveunits are well sealed and the ply cabinet has an internal brace. The tweeter has a claimed power rating of 30W. This system has above average sensitivity. How do they sound? Driven with my 100W Hitachi MOSfet/ ALPS passive preamp these old Nationals simply sparkle. They have lots of top end detail, a wonderful open mid range and the classic (lightweight) but tonal bass. I wonder what these drive units would do in this cabinet designed described by Johannes G LeBong?
