Believe "our news"View with a plain background?News Updated 9th Dec 2006. I am currently on assignment in Wales!!!
Today Carol + Brian (some great mates) treated me to a whirlwind trip around the National Park in Snowdonia. You can see the general area in the blue map below
Driving down from Anglesey, we headed for Porthmadog. Then driving east into the mountains we head to Trawsfynydd (the site of a famous Nuclear power and hydroelectricity powerplant) Heading south down to Dolgellau
A quick pit stop on our way to Machynlleth (the heart of Wales)
Some interesting facts from Brian on route; Lots of these old valley farms have been cleverly positioned. Many are never touched by the sun in winter! BRRRRRRR! In Llangower moss growing on the trees can get up to 6inches thick. Britain's most radio active man lives very close to Trawsfynydd (the site of a nuclear power station) He drinks the milk from his cows which graze near the station.
Here around the town of Machynlleth. Carol + Brian lean a bit!
Machynlleth has a very alternative and ARTY communinity. A craft store below
Blue wall.........blue frosty sky.
Mr Evans well known for window work MORE ON THE WILDLIFE + CROSS PASS On the way up to Bala we came across plenty of wildlife. Red Kites are getting common again and we nearly ran over a brace of pheasants. Quite a few farm gates are left open. The sheep like to graze on the road. they like the "heat of the tarmac" We stopped at Bwylch Y Croes, or Cross Pass, (the highest road pass in the UK) at about 1700ft above sea level. Snow was falling as we arrived and there was a very strong wind blowing My bodily fluids almost instantly started to solidify. My face was numb in less than two minutes I haven't been as cold in 20 years. Unfortunately the batteries in my Pentax died so I could not record the moment. Strangely a grey squirrel scampered by, probably a commando! Its just amazing what these little guys can do with a bushy tail and a couple of hazelnuts.
A cold scene in North Wales Dec 2006.
Here the Menai Straits Nov 28th The beauty of Snowdonia will literally take your breath away.
